Grade

Preselection for a Wimmer floor goes back to nature. Every tree has its own character, displayed in its individual structure with cracks, knots and grain patterns. These signs of authenticity tell the timber’s history: its mild or severe winters, varying weather conditions the tree was exposed to or the wind that blew wildly or gently through the branches. We take this wide range of design options and sort the wood based on similarities, categorising it into “fine”, “natural” or “rustic” grades. After receiving an order, this procedure allows us to put together homogeneous wooden floors that create a harmonious whole in every project.

Fine grade

This grade produces a quiet floor pattern as the surface is only interrupted here and there by knots of different sizes. The overall effect of the floor is discreet; the tree’s natural growth pattern does not come to the fore. Our fine grade is finished by brushing or hand planing, which highlights the fundamental elegant character to varying degrees.

Natural grade

Our natural grade reflects wood’s natural appearance. As in nature, the surface combines quiet, homogeneous parts with more lively areas whose surfaces display knots and small, occasional cracks. Our natural grade is also usually brushed or hand planed. The former gives the floor pattern more depth, which is perceptible to the touch. The latter highlights the handcrafted finish, giving the surface an elegant sheen and an almost velvety feel.

Rustic grade

This grade firmly places the focus on the characteristics the wood has developed over the course of several centuries. Any irregularities are welcome. Grooves, cracks and knots characterise the appearance of the rustic grade. Such flooring is like a living organism and embraces the irregular beauty of nature. Especially in the most exquisite of all our finishes, the nature deluxe surface texture, the result is floors of unique depth and haptic quality.
