Wooden floors of exquisite beauty crafted by hand.

It takes a trained eye and particular care to bring out the characteristics that have developed in wood over the course of centuries. That’s why wooden floors of this quality can only be crafted by hand. While a solid base ensures stability, the surface finishing brings out the character and beauty of the wood and prepares it for longevity as an element of the architecture. This process includes various, very elaborate processing cycles and over 100 operation in which the best wood from our forests is turned into one of the most exclusive and sensuous surfaces to be found in interior design.

Our wood: only the best is good enough.

The quality of Wimmer wooden flooring originates in forests that are managed sustainably and whose trees supply the most valuable wood. We procure such material exclusively from long-term, reliable partners and, whenever possible, from German and French forests. To subsequently ensure maximum homogeneity of the floor, we purchase the wood for our high-grade wood veneers from uninterrupted growing areas. Here the trees were exposed to comparable conditions for many years due to their geographical proximity. The marks in their wood tell similar stories and produce a balanced architectural pattern on the floor as structural features in the form of knots, cracks, growth rings, etc.

The three-layer floorboard: a benefit to both nature and architecture.

Wimmer manufactures engineered wooden flooring consisting of a solid base layer made of larch, spruce or fir and the approx. 5 mm thick top layer made of high-grade wood, which forms the surface of a floor. Such a technique preserves limited resources of high-grade woods and guarantees maximum stability in terms of form. The natural material can be reliably incorporated into the architecture as the multiple layers ensure great stability. Subsequent gapping is thus reduced to a minimum.

The individual layers and the wood on top are bonded using a special, emission-free adhesive whose bonding ability enables unrestricted use in interior architecture. Wimmer wooden flooring can therefore be laid on underfloor heating or in wet areas.

Wood is a product of nature. It possesses its own creativity. Those who respect this and know how to harness it can make very beautiful floors out of this untamed quality.

Handcrafting.

Following bonding to the base, the high-grade wood veneers are finished by hand. The selected surface texture is created during this process. We offer our wooden flooring in three different finishes: brushed, hand planed and nature deluxe. All three versions require a high level of craftsmanship, a lot of patience and love of detail, the objective being to bring out the wood’s untamed quality and accentuate its surface. Only experienced master craftsmen are able to carry out this operation because the result of this work is a major factor in determining the characteristics of the surface.

Refining and dyeing.

Our wooden surfaces are fumed, oiled, waxed, polished and air-dried over a period of days and in at least four session so that the finish can slowly penetrate the wood and harden there. Our wood is also dyed during the course of this elaborate process, to create a high-quality range of nuanced colours. Furthermore, the colour penetrates deep into the wood and, as the years go by, develops in harmony with the surface patina. We only use the best and most natural oils, waxes and pigments to finish and dye our wooden flooring.
